If you’ve been struggling to complete the process of writing a book, then perhaps your environment and all the unhelpful stimuli to which you are exposed is affecting your concentration more than you presume. Talk to most professional writers and they will advise you to create a sanctuary from where you can write on a daily basis. Now you’re probably thinking “but I’m not rich!” Truth is, writing sanctuaries aren’t just luxuries for those with time and resources. All-in-all, the environments within which you do your writing will affect the final results of your work regardless of how much you have in your bank account!

Tips on Creating Your Writing Sanctuary

Creating a writing space is not just about sitting at a desk-and-computer work station. It’s about carving out a sanctuary for creativity where you’ll be inspired to write your best work. ChatEbooks believes this shouldn’t necessarily take all of your time or deplete too many of your resources. In fact, it’s fairly easy to produce such a comfortable and productive workspace with just a few easy steps.

Find an Appropriate Location

Take a closer look at your home and find a quiet place from where you can work. The bedroom isn’t an appropriate sanctuary. You will most likely spend more time sleeping there than writing.  However the living room might work. You should focus on locating a nice corner where you can permanently place a table or a desk. If you do not have a living room, you can just partition the most spacious room available to you. You do not need that much space to work when writing a book.

Stock It with Necessary Furniture

Every writing sanctuary should be equipped with a chair, a bookshelf, a printer and a filing cabinet.  Your chair should be comfortable and ergonomically structured to provide you with the proper support for your back. Though a bookshelf is not a definite must, it comes in handy for housing books/research materials. Filing cabinets are very effective storage devices. They can provide an area of storage for your office supplies without taking up too much space.  Your printer can sit comfortably on top of your filing cabinet or bookshelf.

You do not have to spend too much money on furniture. If you’re a struggling writer on a budget, I’m sure there are plenty of yard sales in your area that can provide you with enough inexpensive furniture for creating your writing sanctuary.

Limit Accessories to a Minimum

When writing a book, avoid giving yourself excuses to get up. Your writing sanctuary should have everything you might need within easy reach. It should be fully stocked with lots of pens, pencils, paper, white out, a trash can, water bottles, sticky notes and any other necessary writing tools. Caution – keep unnecessary electronic devices away. A writing sanctuary is a place designated for writing. Anything that you don’t need to get your writing done shouldn’t be in your sanctuary.

Play Music

Different people have varying opinions about silence when it comes to writing a book. For some, all sound is taboo. They can only write when they are enveloped in dead silence. Others prefer working with music in the background. Organize your sanctuary accord to your own personal preference. If you need music to make progress, then create a few playlists that you can listen to while writing. Experiment a bit in order to find the music you feel most productive and inspired with. If you enjoy the silence, invest in some noise cancelling headphones.

Personalize It

Take time to personalize your writing space to make it an inviting place where you can be inspired to do your best work. If you’re blessed enough have a room completely designated for writing, you should paint the room with soothing colors that will spark inspiration and creativity.  If you’re working within a designated space, you can position your desk so it has a great view and place photos of family and friends in your surrounding area. The goal of personalization is to help transport you to a happy place while writing a book.

When writing a book, you need to make your sanctuary as conducive as possible.  Create a place that is set apart where you can lose yourself in your art. By transforming a space into your own den of creativity (completely free of unnecessary distractions), you’ll find yourself more productive!
